This man is one fantastic artist, and has an incredible understanding of light form and colour, someone must have told him this repeatedly because he released a book titled

"Colour and Light  a guide for the realist painter"

Picture shown here

If, as an artist you take yourself seriously or if you at least take your artwork seriously then I strongly urge you to buy this book.

As a professional illustrator and picture drawing specialist.

One of my weaknesses  in my opinion, is that my colour is not as strong as my drawing or line work, But this humble little tome is helping me change that.

Mr Gurney really did something special when putting this together, and I feel that this book may become as highly regarded as Burne Hogarths dynamic anatomy.

I have a rule when it comes to artwork, that being  Keep it fun and interesting for yourself, because if its not fun or interesting for you then why would it be so for others?

This book encompasses this philosophy, Mr Gurneys explanations are simple fun and very very interesting.
He is one of the modern masters and to have his secrets and tips shared with us is truly a gift, the book is very well priced and will most likely be well read in any artists home.

If your already fluent in the language of colour use, then I still feel there may be things to learn from this book.

As mentioned earlier I regard colour as one of my artistic weaknesses, and I have thus gone through many books and though they have all been great, none has been quite as comprehensive as Colour and Light.

Artists are not just men and woman who pour out their souls on paper canvas or stone, we are also people who are regarded as problem solvers and art has more problems than I can begin to imagine, every new piece has its own set of challenges and revelations.

And a book like this is a testament to how great James Gurney really is as an artist, he  has given us tools to make those artistic challenges just a little less intimidating and even fun.

That being said it is not the be all and end all, and nor was it intended to be. But it is a damn good place to start and also a great place to visit as it may even help you clinch the gap your own work and it will definitely open you up to a world of colour that you didn't consider, or maybe you did but thought you were silly for doing so.

Either way you should  at least go and check it out.

PS: I really think you should buy this book, and I am not being sponsored to write this, I do honestly feel it's an amazing tool.

Hmmm how to play

Hey guys and girls

So as mentioned earlier I collect toys and one of my faves are Gi joes.

And of the ways i enjoy playing with my toys, is to  take pics of them and have fun and go nuts ill include more over the course of the year.

But these are some of my fave shots from a very recent shoot.

And I tried to get the detail to pop and to make em seem bigger than they are, mostly because they are much bigger than they are.

Bear in mind these lil guys are all about 3 inches in height.

Another way I  like to play with my joes is, by putting them in what I deem as cool dynamic poses, as I mentioned earlier these figs are actually biigger than they appear, due to the fact that they have plenty personality.

And its that personality that I try to capture in the shots.

the future of this little blog.....

I have some ideas and there are things like reviews, but I was thinking  if i review anything it will be stuff that i really dig or things that i just find intreresting enough to.

I wont be offering comprehensive reviews perse, my buddy Stephen vhas been posting some reviews of his fave vehicles and such and I think if your a fan it would be worth checking out.

his site

http://realsouthafricanhero.yolasite.com/

Also we may review the same figs in future and post our reviews which may be full of similarities and some counter points.

Which for some of you may be a lot of fun.

Ill also prob post things on some of my fave kits etc...

And in closing

I have some awesome arty things going on and its prob best to check my deviantart for that but ill be putting up some developments on new projects etc.

Thanks for the time gys hope you enjoyed and see you all next Sunday.

Kind regards

But where is all the artwork?

Well, its out there but this blogging thing is kinda new territory for me and as I become more familiar with it, you'll find lots of my stuff slowly appear here.

Also 2011 has been pretty awesome thus far, my first game work has been published so to speak, the game is Freefall and features character designs and artwork by me.

It was produced as a collaborative effort between Blade and Celestial, I as a gamer think the game is truly awesome its lots of fun and I think for something that is free its actually waaay worth it.

Plus if you a fan its you get to play my first animation work, in a game ever.

And yes the first time I played the working beta I swear I wanted to cry.
Its a great feeling actually, seeing your work come alive like that.

Also been busy on Toxic Bunny and I am not allowed to really go into detail, but if you guys wanna check the progress you can visit http://toxicbunny.co.za/. for details.

If you guys wanna check out freefall here it is http://www.appbrain.com/app/freefall/blade.freefall its completely FREE and its for android phones only. I would love to hear feedback as all feedback is positive.
